A Whole Week Apart?!

Helloo,

So as we all know it is coming up to Summer, the dreaded 6 weeks of having to entertain kids constantly. Luckily, I don't have to deal with that just yet as Corey isn't at school age. But it does mean that for a one week Corey will be with his dad.

How to cope?!

I believe this is to be the third time, quite frankly I don't remember the first. But I do remember last year I had decided to potty train Corey one Monday, but then I was taking into hospital on the Wednesday for an operation. Frankly I was so poorly, and it was a relief Corey was going to be looked after this point. I was in a lot of pain, dosed up high and sleeping lots but it didn't make it any easier.

This year I am already absolutely dreading it. Ok, well to be honest I had actually forgotten until now. Which makes it even worse, no time to prepare! Corey will be heading to Blackpool for the week with his dad and grandparents and will have lots of fun I am sure. I hear how lovely it is there, but never been myself!

But it is a whole freaking week!!

Like I honestly don't know how I am going to cope, my other half and mum will be working. What will I possible spend my time doing?

I have to go every other weekend from Saturday at 9am to Sunday at 7.30pm without Corey, this is obviously not by choice. But it is good for Corey to spend time with his other family and good for me to have a break.

But it will be a whole freaking week!!

I strongly believe that parents should have a break every now and then, like you just need some time to keep sane. I honestly don't know how some parents, who don't have this choice, do it. I am so lucky to have a family who will help out when I need it, if I am poorly or whatever.

Because Corey goes to pre-school, I only have him 3 days a week one week and 5 the next. It doesn't feel like much at all. The days I have him we either spend together or with my family. I am lucky that I am not working, because when I was full-time it was only really evenings we got together. It was so hard!

I think because if Corey is to stay at mums on the rare occasion or if I were to take a weekend away, I can still speak to Corey through the phone or facetime, we have a little chat. Mum will send the odd photo too and I will get an update of what he is up too. It's more reassuring knowing I can do that. I like to see his little face!

But a whole freaking week!!

And absolutely no contact, the thought of it is just so unbearable. A whole week without seeing his face at all, speaking to him to say our "I love you"s or our kisses and cuddles before he goes to sleep. I have learnt to handle one night every other week without bedtime cuddles etc.

But a whole freaking week!!

Just look at that cute face? The other night, I was singing him some lullabies to get him to sleep after his 2 hour giggle fit. I thought he was asleep and turned round to this little face! Then he started singing along, what a cutie :)

How would you cope or spend your time? Any tips to help me through this in August would be greatly appreciated!

Love, Gemma xo

  2. Aww bless you, I can imagine it will be so difficult but you will just need to keep yourself busy! I hate leaving my daughter (she is 4 months) and couldn't imagine leaving her for a week but in the same breath a weeks break would probably be nice. Your partner will just have to make sure you are having so much fun that you are not constantly thinking about it!

    Good luck chick xx

  4. Oh, that's so hard for you :( All you can do is keep yourself as busy as possible - treat yourself to all the things that are normally hard to do with a little one. Enjoy a couple of late nights and lay ins. And hopefully the week will fly by, good luck! #mummymonday

  6. #weeklywednesday Ahhhh bless you. I think that you just have to plan lots of lovely things that week. Go to a coffee shop and sit and read a book. Give yourself a manicure and pedicure. Go for long walks. Have afternoon naps. Try and spoil yourself and enjoy some me time. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

  7. Ah, must be so hard - will feel like losing a limb I imagine. The only thing I can suggest is keep yourself as busy as possible and plan things for every day - catch up with friends you haven't seen in a while, go to the cinema, go shopping - whatever you like to do. That way hopefully the week will pass super quickly and you'll have your boy back before you know it! xx #weeklylinky
